Day 16 E-mail

Okay, a couple of things.  First of all, the masons were actually here one day before this one, but I did not document it.  They were perparing the brick work for "toothing-in" the new bricks.  It was raining, and I did not want to take pictures in the rain.  You want dedication to this work?  Pay me.

day16_1541.jpgThe bricks were added to the west wall around the new, reduced-size window.  They are a bit dirty, the mortar is not dry, and the dust from the toothing-in preparation is still on the wall all around them, but here they are.  The house was built in 1948, so matching the brick exactly is not likely.  However, they did a pretty good job.  Also, it seems that the same thing has happened to bricks as has happened to lumber.

Did you ever buy a 2X4?  In 1948 they were actually 4 inches by 2 inches.  Today, they are 3.5 inches by 1.5 inches.  Well, it seems that in 1948, bricks were eight inches long.  Now, they are 7.5 inches long.  Some expert fiddling was applied, and one can't tell that there is a length disparity.
