I am calling the removal of the cabinets and carpeting a single day, even though Amanda and I spread it out over a couple of weekends. It might help to think of the "days" in this record as "days I took the time to take pictures".
I didn't take many pictures of this stage of the process. It wasn't very dramatic, and didn't seem to rate a lot of time spent on it.
This is the southwest corner without the upper cabinets. The rest of the room kind of looks like this, too.
After removing the old carpet, the plan was to keep using the refrigerator, range, sink, and dishwasher until we got the final call from Koffel. At that time I would take out the sink and base cabinets. So, I got a couple of cheap carpets ($20 ea.) at Home Depot and covered the bare floor with them. This picture shows the carpets and the state of the floor under them.
It was at this stage that I started putting together a temporary kitchen in our living room. Sue and I had gone through this process before, and did not do the temp kitchen thing. It was like living in London...during the Blitz. Well, I ain't doing that again. So I picked out some easily assembled shelving ad Home Depot, with the plan being to use them in the basement and garage after the new kitchen is finished. This was the first stage of the kitchen. More on this later.
This is a good time, just before the pictures of the REAL demolition, to show the next picture. At the website of the company from which we are getting our cabinets, there is a cool design tool that lets you visualize what your kitchen is sort of going to look like. Here's ours. The floor will be a bit darker (for contrast) and the layout is different, but these are the cabinets, and the colors. I expect to need to look at this a lot in the coming weeks.
