Kitchen BEFORE Photos E-mail

southeast_corner_before.jpgThanks to Sue, we have some photos of the kitchen, taken before work began.  Sue is using the highly under-rated "right index finger partially over the lens" photographic technique.

This is the southeast corner of the kitchen.  This picture clearly illustrates the fact that not only does this kitchen have too little cabinet space, it also doesn't have enough counter space to hold the items that will not fit inside the cabinets.

southwall_left_before.jpgThis view is slightly to the right of the last picture.  It shows the south wall of the kitchen, Including the only  electrical outlets available for countertop use (left of the windowsill), the dishwasher, the too-large window (which serves the purpose of keeping cabinet space out of the kitchen), and the hated "gingerbread" above the window.

southwall_right_before.jpgThis picture, again to the right of the last shot, shows the remainder of the window, the sink, and the left end of both the upper cabinets and the range/oven.  That, by the way, is the end of the counter space.

range_before.jpgThis is the southwest corner of the room, showing the upper cabinets (note the "dead" corner, and the lovely pinkish formica.

westwall_before.jpgThis is the west wall of the room.  Seen here is the largest window in the house,  This window has a sill that is too low to allow a countertop to be placed in front of it.  Also seen is the radiator cover,  The radiator is situated just right to keep the oven door from opening all the way.  What were they thinking?

northwest_corner_before.jpgNorthwest corner of the room, showing the door to the back door landing.  Also seen is the chair rail and the lovely cheap paneling wainscoting.  Also of interest is the light switchplate, which contains the only other electrical outlets in the room.  There are a total of three outlet locations, with a total of six "plugs".

northeast_corner_before.jpgThis is the northeast corner of the room.  Seen here is the door to the living room, the too-short cabinets over the refrigerator, and at the top of the picture, the evil ceiling fan.

This brings us around the room.  The only thing not really memorialized is the carpet.  Demolition tells us that the kitchen floor was originally covered with vinyl tiles, but at some point the tiles were taken up and the "No Carpet Left Behind" movement was allowed to install an "attractiveness-challenged" carpet in the kitchen.

So, that's the tour.  Enjoy the rest of the process.
